Urban Photographer – What is that?
Urban photographer is a term that probably has many different meanings, but for us it is the term that has been used to describe our photography for as long as we can remember. The interesting thing about this is that all of our urban photography is really urban portraiture. Our urban photographer services pretty much offer up what it says on the tin…photography in an urban environment. It’s an area and a speciality that has won us numerous awards and distinctions as well as being the area that we feel we are the best. We are at our best when we are commission as an urban photographer. Finding new and exciting locations that really ADD to the image. This is important to us, we won’t just use an urban location because it looks cool, it needs to add something to the images that we are trying to create.
What kind of things can your urban photographer services be used for?
The short answer? Pretty much anything! The long answer? Well, it really depends. We have been used as an urban photographer for band photography, celebrity photography, fashion photography, and advertising photography. Really anything you want images for, but want OUR unique, edgy, and urban look too. In another short answer….if you want George Fairbairn Photography’s style and creativity you probably want an urban photographer. Don’t get me wrong, we don’t always have to shoot urban, it’s just what we do the majority of the time. :D
Well that’s all well and good, but how is that different from a fashion photographer?
This is something that actually comes up with us all the time, because so much of our work is as an urban photographer. Simply put, a fashion photographer takes images to sell the clothing and if that happens to be in an urban location or a rural location it is still fashion photography. Being a fashion photographer takes the same creativity and use of location that an urban photographer needs, but the focus and overall context of the image is different in that here we want the viewer to want to buy something specific (the clothing), whereas in an urban photography image we are selling the entire image or person in the image. In short, a fashion photographer is creating an image to sell an article (or two or three) of clothing and this is something we love doing.
OK, so what is a Celebrity Photographer then?
This is one that takes a little more explaining because the definition of celebrity can be so varied. We use the term celebrity photographer to basically say we specialise in creating images for people that are in the spotlight (in any form) to sell, advertise, and promote themselves. We have been a celebrity photographer for former Big Brother housemates as well as athletes. We love our celebrity photography as it’s very similar to our band photography services….creating images that tell you who the person is, why you should like them (or see them, or buy their products), and doing so in a unique and contemporary way.
Great, where are you located and where do you cover?
We are based in East Anglia just outside of Cambridge, Newmarket, and Bury St. Edmunds. We are always covering jobs in Cambridge, Norwich, London, and Ipswich. We do, however, cover a much broader are and have traveled to Birmingham and beyond many times. We can travel to you anywhere in the UK (and europe if needed. Obviously, depending on where you want the shoot to be done, there will be some travel expenses. But, this is usually not all that much.
Rates: We wish this could be as straight forward as just putting some rates here, but it really isn’t. We tailor each quote to the specific commission and factors include time, use of the images, and travel. To give you a basic idea though, a shoot in London for a couple of hours with the images being used on the internet and some flyers and other marketing materials would typically be £250. Shoots are tailored completely to each situation and we aim to give you the best service and the photos that you need.
