Food Photography and Stop Motion
Donuts… or is it Doughnuts? I don’t think anyone actually knows! According to Dictionary.com it’s technically correct spelling is doughnuts. But, it’s been donuts since the 1800’s sparingly and became widely accepted in the 20th century and is now the most common way of seeing the word for the delicious fried breakfast treats.
I recently did some food photography and created a short stop motion animation with Krispy Kreme donuts. For this I wanted to keep things fairly simple. Show the wide variety of Krispy Kreme donuts available whilst making them look enticing and delicious. The stop motion was simple, the donut bites come in to form the classic ringed donut with sprinkles and then all the other common varieties come into frame as well… with some coffee of course!
Check out the stop motion below.

The same brief was applied to the food photography as was used for the stop motion. Show the variety of Krispy Kreme donuts available whilst making them look enticing and delicious. For this though, I wanted to keep with my style of bright background as well as split coloured backgrounds. When possible there was space for copy on the more minimalistic shots. Check out some of the donuts photos below.
The first two images are actually stills from the stop motion animation. One of the many benefits to stop motion animation is that each frame is a high resolution still that can be used on it’s own.
Stop motion animation is my absolute favourite things to create these days. Besides giving you a short, eye catching advertisement it also gives you high resolution stills that can be used alongside the stop motion seamlessly. Short stop motions are ideal for social media as they will engage your audience, but remain short enough that they can be used in a multitude of platforms.
